 Kjerstin Gruys: Kjerstin Gruys is currently a PhD candidate and Teaching Fellow in the Department of Sociology at UCLA. After graduating from Princeton with her undergraduate degree in Sociology, she worked in the fashion industry, first by conducting market research for fashion magazines and then working as a fashion merchant. She then returned to academia determined to make a positive difference in women’s and girls’ lives, conducting her research on how “lookism” shapes gender inequality in the workplace. Kjerstin has also lectured publicly about the perils of poor body image and eating disorders. She resides in California with her husband, Michael, and their Boston Terrier-Beagle mix, Noelle.
